|31st Annual Macedon Center Community Lumberjack Festival|
|September 7th and 8th|
This year the festival will be held September 7 - 8 at the firemen’s field on Canandaigua Road. It is sponsored by the Macedon Center Fire Dept., the Macedon Center United Methodist Church, and the Macedon Historical Society.
Gates open both days at 8 AM. Saturday’s amateur competition sponsored by Lakeland Equipment/Stihl will begin at 9AM. The events include log rolling, two-man crosscut, buck saw, chain saw, log chop, and fire starting. This is a great opportunity to see many of the champions of the 2013 Northeast Colligate Woodsmen Conclave from FLCC compete. We encourage local lumberjacks to come out and participate too. This is an opportunity for the beginner to become familiar with the timber sport. We supply all the equipment and safety gear. Some of the professionals will be on hand to offer advice on how to improve technique or to help you get started in the sport. At 5 PM Sat. and Sun. the grease pole climb will take place so gather up 4 people and you’ve got a team! The pole is covered with Crisco so make sure you wear clothes you can throw away. First place team takes home $250.00!
On Sunday you will get to see pros from all over the country and Canada compete. Dave Jewitt, Wally and Andrea Robarge, Andy and Erica Schreiner, and Paul Pfenniger are a few of the locals competing. Competition starts at 10:30 AM. There will be ax throwing, hot saw, two man crosscut, spring board and more. Today this event is one of the highest paying competitions in the northeast. So come out to see the pros, get a “cookie” signed and then watch them on ESPN in October.
There is also a craft and collectables sale. If you would like to be a vendor, call 315-986-8140. Commercial exhibitors include portable band saws, wood carvers, landscaping equipment, fireplaces and more. There will be a petting zoo and fish pond for the kids. A variety of food is available all day, ice cream for dessert. The lumberjack breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, home fries, juice and coffee is served Sat. 7-11 AM and Sun. 8 - Noon. “Come as you are” church services are held at 5PM Sat. and 9:30AM Sun. On Sunday there will be a raffle with donations from Altra Rental for a chainsaw. World champion lumberjack Dave Jewett will carve a bear. Blazey’s from Palmyra has donated a string trimmer. We also have gift cards from Flaherty’s Restaurant, Marble Slab Creamery, and Long Acres Farm Market. You will be able to buy raffle tickets at the breakfast or at the booth on the grounds.
This is going to be the greatest year ever with fun for the whole family. More competitors are encouraged to sign up for the Sat. competition and grease pole climb.
